El Paso Electric Company (EPE) may require a security deposit from business customers in Texas whose credit has not been established to the utility's satisfaction. Instead of paying that deposit in cash, you can provide a utility deposit bond. The bond guarantees payment of your electric bills, so your business keeps its working capital while service stays connected.
EPE sets the bond amount to match the deposit it requests from you. Under Texas utility rules, that deposit cannot exceed one-sixth of your estimated annual billings, roughly two months of service. The bond amount is the coverage EPE requires, not the price you pay. Your premium depends on the surety's underwriting, so request a quote for your business rather than relying on a fixed price or percentage.
Start the online application with your business name, El Paso Electric account and service address, the deposit amount El Paso Electric requested and ownership details. WWIS will review your submission and help you with the quote, required documents and issuance. Approval and timing depend on the surety and a complete application.
Under Texas utility rules, deposit security for non-residential accounts is released after 24 consecutive billings with no disconnection for nonpayment, no more than two late payments and a current balance. Until then, keep the bond in force and renew it on time. EPE may also request an additional amount if your actual billings run well above the original estimate. Confirm the requirements for your account with EPE at (915) 543-5970.
