California Contractor License Bond
The California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) requires a $25,000 contractor license bond. The bond supports compliance with California contractor licensing law and provides a way for eligible claimants to seek payment for covered violations.
Bond amount and your premium
The $25,000 bond amount is the required coverage amount, not the price you pay. Your premium depends on the surety's underwriting. Request a quote for your business rather than relying on a fixed price or percentage.
How to apply

Information needed for filing
- The bond must be issued by a surety authorized in California.
- Your business name and license number must match CSLB records.
- The surety's attorney-in-fact must sign the approved bond form.
- CSLB must receive the bond within 90 days of its effective date.
Do you need another contractor bond?
A bond of qualifying individual may also be required. Contractors licensed as an LLC have a separate $100,000 employee/worker bond requirement. These are distinct from the $25,000 contractor license bond. Confirm the requirements for your license with CSLB.
